ABSTRACT

Domestic violence is a serious and inhumane offence which is claiming lives of lakhs of people and also infringes the fundamental rights of people. It roots from patriarchal mindset of society which leads to various physical, mental and emotional harm to different generations of people including young children, young females and aged people. Through this article, it is tried to understand what is domestic violence, what are the causes and effects of domestic abuse and the laws in India as well as the worldwide perspective.
