ABSTRACT

Just like prostitution, sex etc. LGBTQA+ is a taboo in India. People in India don’t discuss it openly and see people from this community as unworldly beings. Although the situation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual and others (LGBTQA+) has improved still they face a lot of difficulties, be it social, legal or economic. In this paper, I have talked about how a person from the LGBTQ community lives and survives in India. Here I am using the word survive because of problems like racism, physical abuse by their families etc. Even though various judgements were passed by higher courts from time to time and partial de-criminalization of section 377 of IPC has also been done, these problems still exist in our society. This only indicates that our government has failed to implement the provisions regarding the protection of the LGBTQA+ community and also in making new ones. Further in this paper, I have also given some measures by which we can contribute to their better living and how we can redefine the role of family along with working with the new generation.
